Walking with Strangers

‘What other people think of me, is none of my business’ Eleanor Roosevelt

When I first decided to start my blog, I had idea to base it around the title of walking with strangers because I feel like it’s something, we all do to a certain degree.

We are surrounded by close friends and family who are often, in certain aspects as much strangers to us as we are strangers to them. I mean, how much do we really know and understand the people we love? How much of ourselves do we really share? Aren’t we all in some respects just walking with strangers?

Think about it for a minute. How many times have you found out that someone you’re close to has had challenges such as an illness, family problems, heartbreak or severe depression and you were unaware until long after the fact?

Then when people are brave enough to share their story, we are unsure how to react so all too often give an opinion instead of an empathetic ear.

Or what about the times you have had struggles and feel ashamed or unable to share them. So many times, we hide our vulnerabilities; we numb, self-medicate, pretend and at some point, we all feel like imposters in our own lives.

Fast forward a little and I stumbled upon Dr Brené Brown’s TED talk on the Power of Vulnerability. This was an enlightening ‘aha’ moment for me because Dr Brown spoke of the need to be your wholehearted self, to let the unknowns be known.

This is me being honest about my vulnerabilities in my attempt at being wholeheartedly me.
